Case study analysis, also known as case analysis, is a common assignment for business students. Using typical case studies as material, case study analysis aims to cultivate students' ability to analyze problems and propose solutions. Today, SimpleTense will provide a detailed introduction to the structure and writing techniques of case study analyses.

Unlike other fields, a business case study analysis is typically a relatively short, neatly structured report. The required length varies depending on the complexity of the case study, but professors typically expect between 2 and 10 pages. Some business case studies are individual, while others are group assignments. Some are group assignments, typically involving collaborative analysis, with each team member preparing a separate written report.

Writing a case study analysis requires you to integrate the various aspects and key issues of the case with your understanding and perspective. You must also examine various alternatives, select the most feasible solution, and provide evidence to support your point of view. Your evidence can be drawn from class discussions, readings, external research, and personal experience.

Steps in Writing a Case Study Analysis

1. Determine your thesis topic and structure.
Note: Most case studies have a pre-defined format and structure to follow, but different courses may have different requirements, so be sure to confirm this with your professor before writing.
2. Complete a first draft of your case study analysis. 3.
Revise and edit the draft.
4. Revise the format, proofread, and complete the final manuscript.

1. Title Page Title pages are usually written
using standa
rd APA format .

2. Introduction
Establish the main idea of your paper. Summarize the main findings of your analysis in one sentence; this is the main idea of your report. This main idea should be clearly and specifically articulated in the first few paragraphs of your paper. The introduction should identify the central question you intend to address.

3. Background
Starting from the central question, provide the reader with background information about the case study. This section does not reiterate the facts of the case study itself, but rather places the case study in a research context. A well-written background section demonstrates that you have thoroughly researched the case study. Ensure that your presentation focuses on diagnosing the problem in the case study.

The following is a background introduction sample of Apple case analysis for your reference:
Apple is a highly profitable company with many strengths. It was named the top brand in the world in 2015 and has very strong brand power. Part of this brand power comes from its products being status symbols. A recent weakness of the company has been a slower rate of innovation. CEO Tim Cook made important changes to operations when he was COO of the company. However, he does not have the same type of unique and future thinking that former CEO Steve Jobs was known for. Apple is relying on old successes to keep growing.

4. Key Problems

In this section, you should outline your perspective on the existing problems. This is a crucial part of the entire report. You can begin with the typical "who-when-where-what-why-how" questions. Ask yourself, "What problems does this company have?" Often, there's more than one problem. Your goal is to identify those problems that you believe are critical to the success of the company or project.

5. Alternatives
At this point, you've conducted research and contextualized the problem you discovered (providing background information). Now you need to provide multiple alternative solutions to the problem.

While you don't need to analyze every possible option, you should consider multiple alternatives before reaching your final decision. In this section, you can discuss the alternatives you considered and why you ultimately rejected them, ultimately arriving at your final choice. This section might include: Why were they considered viable options? What were the constraints (e.g., funding, time, staffing, resources, etc.) and why you ultimately didn't recommend them.

6. Proposed Solution
This section requires you to discuss your proposed solution and provide strong supporting evidence. Generally, you should only propose one solution. This section should include your proposed solution and your reasons, as well as a logical argument based on research to demonstrate why your proposed solution is the best.

Note that your proposed solution should be specific and realistic. The following is one of the solutions in the Apple case study.
Regarding the threats of counterfeits and stolen intellectual property, Apple can continue to place pressure on the Chinese government for compensation and protection. However, it is unlikely that it can make much progress in this area on its own. These issues are much larger in the Chinese market and will take many companies and governments to negotiate improvements. For these reasons, Apple should focus most on existing strengths, more research and development, better understanding of the Chinese market, and developing stronger business connections in China.

7. Recommendations
If appropriate, you can use the concluding paragraph to discuss organizational or interpersonal issues that arose during the case study. You may also offer suggestions for follow-up actions to address these issues. Be as specific as possible about what should be done and provide detailed recommendations for the individuals responsible. This section primarily discusses how to implement the solutions outlined above.

Before writing, you can confirm with your teacher whether the recommendation section should be included in the article.

Unlike other essay types, a case study analysis requires a strict format. Case study reports typically include an abstract, which briefly summarizes the introduction, background information, and proposed solutions. You should also confirm with your professor whether this section is required.
